Yesterday, Marco, the gang, and I made the long drive over to Redline Fab & Performance in Daytona to test the 2014 build and get a proper tune on the new LS3. It had been running very rich after its first start-up with the bigger injectors Marco had fitted, in preparation for a turbo setup later on down the line.
As Marco, and his friend Raef, went through the car making sure it was ready for tuning and dyno, I took the time to walk around and take notice of the small details about the Drifhappy Team Teal S13 Onevia that had been added.
My favorite of those new details would undoubtedly be the nice and shiny Grip Royal "Royal Purp" wheel. Unfortunately, it was way too dark in the shop for me to capture that nice purple brilliance it boasts, so you'll have to take my word that it looks extremely good.
Attached to it is an NRG quick release that Marco says he is still getting used to, but always smiles about when he remembers its there.
Marco and I have been working hard trying to put together a program this year, and its been rewarding to see it come together. From getting the chance to promote Grip Royal's purple wheel line to being a finalist in Champion Spark Plug's Search for a Champion contest, things have been going very well.
Not to say it hasn't had its downs, either. Marco was very nervous about the motor, seen as though he put it all together under the roof of his own garage here in Orlando, and knew what was at stake if something went wrong. Taking Andrew Mensah's backup LS3 block and building it up from top to bottom was a challenge he took on his own, with some varying help from Raef, and the DriftHappy crew of John, Denis, and myself, and it had started to take a toll on him, along with many other personal things that have been holding him back.
However, the finish line for this build is starting to become more visible; and with the time ticking away before Streetwise Drift's opener in Gresham, that comes as a minuscule relief.
Although we got the car running well and on the lift to be dyno'ed, there were still some things off with the transmission and the sensors we had to use that prevented us from getting a real pull to get some real numbers.
Marco now plans on pulling the motor and running through everything again to double-check on his assumptions. Until then, keep up with him over at DriftHappy at Facebook, and at his official site, DriftHappy.com.
